Knockalisheen Resident Says ‘Sense Of Urgency’ Needed To Stop Two Tier Refugee System

A resident of Knockalisheen Direct Provision Centre says a ‘sense of urgency’ is needed from Government to prevent a two-tier refugee system.

The Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland says people who have arrived here from places other than Ukraine recently have been left waiting in emergency accommodation without a temporary residency card.

An average of 320 people per month sought asylum in this country before the onset of the pandemic.

MASI spokesperson and Knockalisheen resident Bulelani Mfaco says application processes for all people fleeing conflict must be expedited.
