A Kilrush-based member of the RNLI says people should remain calm if they get into difficulty in the water over the festive period.
Water temperatures are to remain in the single digits over the next number of days which could cause recreational water users to go into shock if they’re not adeqately prepared.

It’s believed around half of the individuals who enter the water in emergency situations do so unintentionally.
Charlie Glynn of the Kilrush RNLI is urging people not to panic if they get into trouble and to follow the five steps of the ‘float to live’ procedure.
