Kilrush man charged over Hyde Park Bombing is granted bail

A West Clare man charged with the murder of four British soldiers in an IRA bomb blast in Hyde Park in 1982 has been granted conditional bail.

61 year old John Downey, with an address in Donegal but originally from Saint Joseph’s Terrace in Kilrush  also faces a further charge of intending to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.

He’ll be fitted with an electronic tag and will have to report to a police station every day. 

A provisional trial date has been set for January.
