Kilnamona Poet Secures Major Award

A North Clare poet has won Ireland's oldest literary award.

Doirann Ní Ghríofa, a bilingual poet from Kilnamona collected 10,000 euro as she was named as the winner of the Rooney prize for Irish Literature 2016.

The award is in its 40th year, and Doireann collected the honour at a special ceremony in Trinity College Dublin.

Previous winners of the prize include Ann Enright, Frank McGuinness and Bernard Farrell.
