Kilmihil Shocked After Death Of Young Man Following Accident

A young West Clareman has passed away in hospital four days after he sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident.

23-year-old Colum Callinan was the only occupant of the car involved in this single vehicle collision which occured at around 8:30 on Sunday morning, 2 kilometres outside of Kilmihil on the Knockalough Road.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Colum was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he lost his fight for life last evening.

Locals in Kilmihil have been left numbed by the death of the popular local man, and prayers had been said for him at mass there and in a candlelit vigil at Kilmihil GAA grounds on Sunday night.

Gardaí in Kilrush are continuing to investigate the crash, and have asked anyone who can assist them to contact them on 065 9080550.
