Kilmaley Businessman Says Road Condition Is Affecting His Business

A Kilmaley businessman claims poor conditions on a local road is impacting on his livelihood.

It comes as a small number of complaints have been made to Clare County Council in recent days, over what some have described as “sinkholes” on the road between Ennis and Connolly.

Works have been ongoing on the R474 between Ennis and Connolly for over a year now, as part of the Slieve Callan to Tulla Road Cable Route Project.

Over this time, there has been a series of stop and go systems and diversions in place for road users, which one businessman says hasd had a major impact on his business.

Laurence O’Brien claims the condition of the road isn’t up to standard, saying there have been massive potholes at various stages along the route.

He says he’s tired of listening to promises about when it will be finished.

The company behind the Slieve Callan to Tulla Road Cable Route Project says its committed to fully repairnig any roads damaged during the process.

Resurfacing works on a section of the road are being completed today and West Clare Renewable Energy is expecting the entire project to be wound up within two months.
