It follows the death of 71 people in an abandoned refrigeration truck in Austria yesterday.

Eight women and four children were among the 71 migrants found dead in the back of a refrigeration truck in Austria.

Three people have been arrested in Hungry in connection with the discovery which was made on a Motorway yesterday afternoon.

Local Police Chief Hans Peter Doskozil says the victims may be from Syria.

Trocaire is now calling on the EU to treat the migration crisis as a humanitarian emergency and to commit to providing an urgent response that is legal, dignified and compassionate.

The organisation says EU states must honour their legal responsibility to protect refugees coming into Europe, who are risking their lives to escape the worst forms of war and opression.

It's Director, Kilmaley-man Eamon Meehan believes that the delay in a coordinated approach from member states is deliberately disregarding the suffering of migrants.
