A Kilkee Councillor says local communities have been ‘thrown under the bus’ by a cut in funding under next year’s budget.
Local representatives unanimously approved the Council’s budget for 2023 on Friday, which was formulated on the basis that commercial rates would not be increased next year.
With nearly 152 million euro in projected expenditure, the general municipal allowance for each district has been cut by an overall figure of €264,000 and community grant aid funding has been reduced by 20%.
Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District, Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy believes a 2% rates rise should have been considered instead.
