A Kilkee councillor is calling on the Health Minister to intervene in the dental care crisis in Clare.

New figures released by the HSE show that while 15 dentists in Clare were contracted to provide care to medical card holders this August, only 9 actually provided treatment – a 44% drop on the same time last year.

The number of patients seen under the Dental Treatment Services Scheme in the county has dropped by 40% between 2019 and 2021 from almost 8,700 to just over 5,700, with a similar figure likely to be recorded this year.
