Key TDs withdraw support for David Norris

 

 

The campaign of presidential hopeful Senator David Norris lies in tatters this morning after a number of key backers withdrew their support last night.

Independent TDs Finian McGrath, John Halligan and Thomas Pringle have withdrawn their support for Mr Norris campaign.

It follows revelations that he wrote to Israeli authorities in 1997 appealing for clemency for his former partner who’d been convicted of statutory rape of a 15 year old.

Dublin TD Finian McGrath said he deeply regrets withdrawing support, but he had to put children and the presidency first.
