The Justice Minister has vowed to deploy increased numbers of Gardaí across every district in the coming years.

Responding to a question from Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD, Timmy Dooley, Charlie Flanagan has revealed new figures on Garda numbers, which show there are 300 gardaí across the two districts in this county.

Ennis alone has over a third of the total officers in the county, while five stations have just one Garda each as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

A total of 300 Gardaí were listed at Clare stations at the end of May of this year.

Out of this number, 119 are stationed in Ennis, while Shannon has the second largest number at 56.

There are 40 stationed in Kilrush, 28 in Killaloe and 26 in Ennistymon.

The smaller stations in Lisdoonvarna, Kilmihil, Kildysart, Ballyvaughan and Crusheen each have one Garda.

Seven Gardaí are also based at the Immigration Office at Shannon Airport.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan claims work is ongoing on rebuilding the organisation and providing the Garda Commissioner with the resources to deploy increasing numbers of Gardaí across every Garda Division, including the Clare Division in the coming years.
