Justice Minister and Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald is expected to outline that substantial extra resources are needed so Gardaí can work overtime to deal with organised crime.

The Irish Times reports that she will say there's a need for 'saturation policing', which will include more Gardai tackling crime in Dublin's north inner city, after a spate of murders.

The Minister wants to create a 'mini' Criminal Assets Bureau to target assets of a lower value – possibly as low as 1 thousand euro.

It's understood the Taoiseach has already said that whatever resources are needed will be made available.

The move comes as a woman in her 40's is to appear in court this morning in connection with the latest gangland murder.

She's being charged with with-holding information that could have prevented a serious offence, after 35-year-old Gareth Hutch was shot dead outside his home in Dublin's north inner city last Tuesday.
