Frances Fitzgerald is asking the Chief Justice to pick a judge to examine the role of GSOC in the run-up to Sergeant Galvin's death.
Sergeant Galvin had been investigated by GSOC but had been cleared of any wrongdoing – though this was not known to him at the time of his death last week.
GSOC had called for the issue to be examined by one of its foreign counterparts – but Frances Fitzgerald says her approach is the correct one.
