The Department of Justice is to seek a report from Gardaí after nearly 100 speeding cases were dismissed at Ennis District Court.
The 98 mainly Clare-based drivers were allegedly caught speeding by Go Safe speed vans, but Judge Patrick Durcan dismissed the cases because its staff could not demonstrate whether fixed charge notices had been paid or not, or that they were authorised to give evidence on behalf of Gardaí.
The Irish Times reports that the Justice Department is now seeking a report from Garda authorities on the enforcement of the Road Traffic Act.
The paper also says a recent analysis of the speed vans conducted by Trinity College shows they save 23 lives a year.
