Justice Department Says Supports Will Be In Place In Lisdoonvarna For Asylum Seekers

The Department of Justice has told Clare TDs that support structures will be put in place in Lisdoonvarna so that local services won’t be impacted by a direct provision centre there.

Clare’s Oireachtas members met with Junior Minister David Stanton last evening, after the signing of a contract to allow the centre at the King Thomond Hotel go ahead.

The hotel will open its doors to an initial 30 people from next Monday, with that number to rise as high as 115 over the 12 month contract.

Officials say they will deal with any education, health or other issues that arise among the asylum seekers and regular reviews of the centre will also be carried out.

Clare’s Independent TD Dr Michael Harty says it’ll take a cross-department effort to ensure the project is a success.
