Clare County Council has issued just six improvement notices for rental properties that have failed to comply with building standards regulation so far this year.
This is despite the local authority recording a failure rate of 93.7% on the 1,037 homes inspected in 2022.

Landlords whose dwellings do not meet strict criteria ranging from basis hygiene and fire safety to structural integrity can be issued with a prohibition notice if remedial works are not carried out in a prescribed timeframe.
However Chair of Clare’s Housing Policy Committee and Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn believes comprehensive information on the faults should be made available to tenants.
