Just 5% of drivers put off the road in Clare this year have surrendered their licence to the Gardaí.
Figures released by the Department of Transport show of the almost 130 drivers disqualified from driving in the county in the first seven months of 2025, fewer than 10 handed their licence in as required.
A total of 6,165 motorists nationwide received a court disqualification in the period of January to July of this year.
April was the month when the most people lost their driving privileges with 986 put off the road.
The Department’s data reveals just 364 of those who were disqualified during this stretch have surrendered their licence to the Gardaí, accounting for just shy of 6%.
Turning to Clare, a total of 128 residents of the county received a disqualification in the period in question, with March being the month with the most offenders as 27 saw their licence become invalid.
Despite it being an offence to fail to surrender a licence following disqualification, just seven have done so in Clare this year, representing 5% of disqualified drivers here.
