Just 3 Gardaí In Clare’s Divisional Drugs Unit

A member of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee is calling for the number of Gardaí serving in this county’s drug unit to be doubled.

New figures released by Justice Minister Helen McEntee show there are just three Gardaí in Clare’s divisional drug unit, which is the second lowest total in the country and well below the national average of 11.

Up to September last year, 265 drug related offences were recorded in Clare, while in the same timeframe 658 such incidents were documented in Tipperary.

Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan says it is a serious issue.
