Junior Transport Minister Called On To Visit North And West Clare To Witness Road Deterioration

The Junior Minister for Transport is being called on to visit West and North Clare to witness first hand the deterioration of the road network.

Councillors for the West Clare Municipal District have voiced concerns that despite a €3 million increase in the works budget for 2023, there will be fewer projects, due to rising costs caused by inflation.

Clare Fianna Fail Senator Timmy Dooley has proposed that a delegation of councillors meet Minister Jack Chambers to seek further funding to facilitate additional road works to cater for tourist and local footfall.

His party colleague, Councillor Cillian Murphy, feels it would be more impactful for Minister Chambers to see the issues on the ground for himself.

The matter was raised at this week’s West Clare MD meeting, and Clare Senator Timmy Dooley says he’s pleased that Minister Chambers has agreed to meet with a delegation in Clare this week

Senator Dooley said, “I’m delighted Minister Chambers has accepted my invite to come to Clare this Thursday to discuss additional roads funding for the county with our local county councillors.

“I have been making the case for further funding for roads in Clare for the past few months and I’m looking forward to further putting that case forward to Minister Chambers on Thursday. Our local councillors are arguing strongly for additional Government funding for roads across Clare and I’m very happy to facilitate this.

“The county needs extra funding to repair and improve roads and from my previous discussions with Minister Chambers I’m hopeful we can make this happen.”
