The Minister of State at the Department Of Health has confirmed that a tender specification document for a dialysis unit in Ennis is being finalised by the UL Hospitals Group.
The issue was raised in the Seanad this week by Ennistymon-based Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway who spoke of the number of patients in West and North Clare who face lengthy journeys to access renal care in Limerick.
Currently dialysis is available at University Hospital Limerick and a satelitte centre on the dock road in the city centre.
Junior Health Minister, Anne Rabbitte, updated the Seanad on the plans by ULHG to establish a similar satellite site in Ennis, saying the tender will be submitted to the HSE in the ‘near future’.
