Junior Doctors Begin Strike Action

Around 15 thousand patients will be affected by the one day strike action by junior doctors from this morning, which see’s doctors withdraw services from 51 hospitals.

More than 3,000 non-consultant hospital doctors are taking part in the move following a long running dispute with the HSE over working hours.

The action got underway at 7 o’clock this morning, but doctors have agreed to provide weekend levels of cover for in-patients and emergency care.

It’s business as usual at hospitals is Ennis and Limerick today – unless you’ve been contacted regarding cancellations.

The HSE says all appointments at Ennis General, Limerick University and the Maternity Hospitals have been reviewed ahead of today’s strike, but urgent care including oncology, dialysis and the emergency and Local Injuries unit facilities in Limerick and Ennis will be open as normal.

The advice for people with appointments is to attend today, unless you’ve been told otherwise as affected patients have been contacted by phone.

A spokesperson for the Univeristy of Limerick Hospitals group told Clare FM that all cancelled appointments will be rescheduled.
