The trial of John Dundon has heard there’ll be evidence he ordered a shooting that led to rugby player Shane Geoghegan being murdered in a case of mistaken identity.
The 31 year old accused man of Hyde Road, Limerick has been found medically fit to stand trial at the Special Criminal Court after reportedly fainting in a holding cell at lunchtime yesterday.
Opening the case prosecution Counsel Tom O’Connell told the court Shane Geoghegan was shot in the head, back and buttock near his home in the Clonmore Estate in the early hours of November 9th 2008.
He has said a witness April Collins, a former partner of John Dundon’s brother, will claim she was there when John Dundon allegedly ordered the killing.
However the court’s heard the target was Shane Geoghegan’s neighbour John McNamara.
The court’s heard April Collins will also say she was present when John Dundon allegedly found out that the wrong man had been shot.
However the trial won’t go into evidence today in order to give John Dundon’s newly hired lawyers an opportunity to get up to speed with the case.
