Clare Animal Welfare is encouraging the public to immediately engage with local support services if they can no longer accommodate the needs of their pets.
The ISPCA’s latest report shows that 13 instances of animal cruelty have been reported in Clare in 2023 so far, with that figure forecast to reach 37 by the years end.
The cases predominantly relate to horses, cats and dogs, while services in the county most regularly encounter animals who have been left abandoned and malnourished.
Clare Animal Welfare Director Stiofán MacGabhann says while shelters are facing difficulty rehoming animals in the current climate, reckless endangerment is inexcusable.
