A young Irish woman has died while trekking in Africa.
She was with a charity fundraising group who had travelled to Mount Kilimanjaro.
The 35 year old woman from Cork had made the trip with a group from Ireland on the 8th of July to tackle the highest peak in Africa.
It’s understood she became unwell at an altitude of 4,000 metres and died of unknown causes yesterday while being treated by a doctor at the scene.
An investigation is now underway into the cause of her death.
A spokesperson for the group has released a statement offering their condolences.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it’s aware of the case and will be assisting the family with arrangements for repatriation.
