Irish Water has warned that recent rainfall has not yet been enough to mitigate against drought at local water supplies.

The Carron scheme in North Clare has been in drought, while others are being closely monitored after an exceptionally dry spring, with very low water levels in both rivers and streams and groundwater sources.

The utility announced this week that a water conservation order, or hosepipe ban, will be extended to July 21st.
