Irish Water is being called on to invest in coastal Clare communities to prevent any future closure of their beaches in peak tourist season.
The past two weeks have seen bathing restrictions put in place in both Kilkee and Lahinch, with the water still off limits in Lahinch today thanks to elevated bacteria levels.

In both cases, the issues were caused by excessive rainfall and now, Doonbeg Fianna Fáil General Election Candidate Rita McInerney says it’s down to Irish Water to ensure their systems can cope.
