Irish Water says it won't hold a public meeting with Clare County Council next week.
As part of what it calls "a comprehensive programme of engagement with local representatives" Irish Water had proposed a series of clinics with Clare County Councillors next week.
These were to be the first in a series of monthly meetings, but the plan was criticised at Wednesday's Council meeting.
Councillors called for the meeting to be public, and the local authority informed Irish Water of this decision yesterday.
This afternoon, however, a spokesperson for the company has told Clare FM that it has "declined this offer."
The one-on-one private meetings will go ahead on Tuesday but it's expected that a large number of Councillors, particularly those who are not Fine Gael members, won't attend.
