The Committee holds a special meeting this evening to review the accountability mechanisms put in place in the utility.

It’s CEO John Tierney has defended spending on outside consultants, expected to reach €86m by the middle of next year, saying it was necessary.

P.A.C. Chairman John McGuinness says that tax payers deserve to know where this money is going.

Here in Clare, meanwhile, concern has been expressed about the impact of Irish Water for homeowners on group water schemes.

A meeting of Clare County Councillors has heard no legislation is in place for the new utility take over group schemes, even though it formally took authority for water services throughout Ireland at the beginning of the year.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Keane fears major problems lie ahead for communities and groups using bulk meters.
