Irish Water has begun work this week to remove ageing backyard service connections in Ennis.
Due to take two months, the works at Hermitage in the county town will see over 550 meters of problematic backyard pipework removed and a new connection to the mains installed in front of the houses instead.

The utility says this latest step is critical to reducing high levels of leakage which have been a significant source of disruption and outages for customers.
Gerry O’Donnell, Regional Delivery Lead with Irish Water, insists any traffic disruption will be minimal.
