Irish Water has warned that it may have to curb water pressure at night-time in order to replenish supplies.

The State utility has implemented a nationwide hosepipe ban for six weeks as a number of schemes are experiencing supply issues, including the Carron scheme which serves customers based in the Burren.

The water conservation order forbids non-essential use of water such as washing cars and using paddling pools, while people are urged to save water through measures including shorter showers.

Irish Water says they also need more rain over the coming weeks, and their Operation Lead for Clare Duane O’Brien says they may have to step up restrictions.
