Irish Rail insists having a rail connection to Shannon Airport would give this region a stronger counterbalance to Dublin.
The national railway network provider is planning to bring a proposal to the Government through the Department of Transport for the creation of a rail stop at the Midwest base.
Building a rail spur from either Sixmilebridge or Cratloe to Shannon Airport was a recommendation of the All-Island Strategic Rail Review, while the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce Report also supports the connection of the airport to the rail network.
Clare native and Irish Rail Chief Executive Officer Jim Meade believes connecting the construction of a rail connection at Shannon would make the airport more sustainable as well as more competitive.
