Irish Rail Directs Drivers To Reduce Speed On Approach To Sixmilebridge Over Illegal Encampment

Irish Rail has issued a directive to drivers to reduce their speed on approach to Sixmilebridge station due to the presence of an illegal encampment.

Occupiers of an encampment near Illaunmanagh Graveyard in Shannon left there in January 2021 and moved on to Sixmilebridge shortly afterwards, taking up residence at the town’s train station.

Irish Rail has confirmed that it has ‘required drivers to proceed at caution through Sixmilebridge’ which has led to delays of 5 minutes in most cases, but on occasion longer.

Kilmurry Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan O’Callaghan says the delays are causing knock-on effects for a variety of services.
