Irish Rail Defends Spend On Rail Replacement Services

Irish Rail insists the flooding of its rail line at Ballycar is to blame for the high spend on rail replacement services on the Limerick to Galway line.

New figures reveal that in the past five years, the company has shelled out €2.5 million on taxis and buses for passengers where it has been unable to run trains.

The Limerick to Galway line, which thousands of Clare commuters use, was highlighted as the worst affected – in 2017, 146 services on that line were disrupted and a massive 616 the previous year.
