Cancer survival rates in Ireland are amongst the lowest in Europe.

The study in The Lancet medical journal puts the survival rate for rectal cancer in Ireland at 56 per cent – that's 20 per cent lower than the best performing country.
Meanwhile, only 56 per cent of Irish women were alive five years after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, compared to 73 per cent in Iceland, , according to the report, which is cited in today's Sunday Business Post.
