18 year old Ibrahim Halawa is facing a number of charges after he was detained during demonstrations in August of last year.
Ambassador Isolde Moylan and a number of Department of Foreign Affairs officials will attend proceedings in an observer capacity.
The Irish State believes Ibrahim should be tried on specific charges and should not face a trial with a large number of other people – however it's reported over a hundred will be in court today.
The Halawa family today appealed for the Irish government to call for Ibrahim's release.
