An MEP for this region is calling on the European Broadcasting Union to stand up and make a properly informed decision on Israel’s inclusion in Eurovision.
RTÉ has said it’s their ‘view’ that Ireland won’t take part in the Eurovision Song contest in Vienna next year, if Israel is allowed to participate, as it would be “unconscionable” given the situation in Gaza.
Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS also announced today that the Netherlands won’t take part, highlighting the suffering in Gaza, while it’s also alleged there was interference by the Israeli government in the most recent edition of the contest.
Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, who presented the Eurovision in Ireland in 1994, says she’s completely against the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the Government of Israel, as well as the ethnic cleansing, man-made famine and targeting and killing of journalists in Gaza.
The Ireland South MEP insists Israel can’t be given a platform to celebrate what she’s described as a “rogue state”.
