Ireland Has Second Highest Cancer Rate in EU

The Republic of Ireland has the second highest rate of deaths from cancer in the European Union, according to new figures out today.

The figures from Eurostat show that 21 percent of Irish men and 18 percent of Irish women died of lung cancer in 2013.

The rate of female breast cancer deaths here, at 17 percent, is four places behind Malta where the rate stands at 21.
