IPA Call For Accountability Over Consultant Waiting Lists At MidWest Hospitals

The Irish Patients Association says a multi-faceted approach is required to reduce consultant waiting times at University Hospital Limerick and Ennis General.

The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show that the number of adults waiting for inpatient or outpatient appointments in the MidWest fell by 14% in the last month.

However one-fifth of patients have been on waiting lists for more than a year, including six patients in Ennis who have been waiting over 18 months for cardiology services.

Irish Patients Association spokesperson, Stephen McMahon has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that the structures of the HSE need to be overhauled to ensure the people are prioritised.
