Gardaí say investigations are continuing into an incident yesterday which involved a car crashing into Shannon Town Hall.

The facility is now ‘closed until further notice’ as a clean up operation gets underway.

The incident is understood to have happened yesterday afternoon when the driver, who is believed to have been elderly, lost control of the vehicle they were travelling in.

The person was the sole occupant of the car at the time and no one else was injured.

Gardaí say they’re treating the incident as a ‘material damage accident’ and are not proceeding with any criminal damage investigations, though are looking at the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says the Shannon Town Hall office is ‘temporarily closed until further notice’.

They say while walk-in services aren’t operating, their teams are continuing to deliver services remotely and can be contacted via phone or email.

The local authority says a ‘full service’ in Shannon will resume as soon as possible and is apologising for any inconvenience caused by the development.
