Investigations are continuing following a drugs seizure worth an estimated 21 million euro at a Limerick Port.
A grain ship, docked in Foynes Port, remained under armed guard overnight following the seizure.
Yesterday evening, Revenue officers boarded and searched a Maltese-registered bulk cargo vessel in Foynes Port, which had arrived from Canada.
It resulted in the discovery of approximately 300kg of cocaine, which has an estimated value of around 21 million euro.
Officers, including specialist search teams, supported by drug detector dogs, are continuing to search the vessel as part of a live and on-going operation today.
An Garda Síochána attended on scene yesterday evening and are working closely with Revenue officers in the operation.
The Garda Investigation is being led by the Limerick Division Crime Functional Area, supported by Divisional Resources, Regional Armed Support Unit, National Units including the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
The EU’s Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre, Narcotics is also involved in the operation.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
