An investigation has been launched following the death of a teenager in West Clare.
Emergency services were alerted after a motorist found a 15-year-old boy lying injured on the roadside, near Killimer this morning.
The alarm was raised at around 6.40 this morning after a motorist reported she'd hit something on a country road near Killimer.
The woman stopped her car and returned to the scene, where she found a 15-year-old boy lying injured on the roadside.
The victim was later pronounced dead and his body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will take place this evening.
Gardaí are awaiting the results of the post mortem before they determine the course of their investigation.
It’s hoped the autopsy will tell gardaí whether the victim died as a result of being struck by the vehicle but it's understood the victim may have been lying on the roadside, or suffered a fall, before the car collided with him.
The road remains closed for a technical examination.
