Investigation into death of inmate at Cork Prison

An investigation is underway after a prisoner died in an apparent stabbing at Cork Prison.

Graham Johnston suffered stab wounds to his chest after becoming involved in a row over a TV remote control in the kitchen.

The incident happened at around 5pm yesterday afternoon.

Prison staff intervened and a local doctor and Gardaí were called – however the 41 year old was pronounced dead a short time later.

A forensic examination of the scene is underway, and a post mortem is due to be carried out.
