Investigation after man electrocuted in North Clare

Separate investigations are underway into the death of man in North Clare who was electrocuted after coming into contact with overhead power lines.

Its understood he was working for a contractor who was carrying out works on behalf of ESB Networks on lands in Boston when the tragic accident happened.

The victim- a man in his fifties believed to be from the Ballinasloe area, was one of two people working on erecting a pole to connect up a new home in the Ballybornagh area at around 12.30 yesterday.

It’s understood that while they were attempting to put it in place, the ESB pole touched overhead electricity wires which carry a current of 10 thousand volts and that the victim came in direct contact with it.

He was killed instantly while the JCB driver who was uninjured , but deeply traumatised by the incident, was brought to Galway University Hospital for observation .

Gardaí from Ennis, ESB Officials and an inspector from the Health and Safety authority all attend the scene yesterday and preliminary investigations are underway.
