INTO Calls for Reduction in Class Sizes

 The primary teachers union is calling for reductions in class sizes.

The INTO conference in Kilkenny has heard that primary schools in Ireland have some of the largest classes in the EU, with 25 students, compared to 20 in other European countries.

The annual conference has also been told that over 120 thousand primary school children here are in classes of 30 or more.

The Organisation's incoming President, Mullagh National School Principal Sean McMahon, takes on that role this afternoon and says class sizes here are simply too big.
