Intimate memories of a Clare woman who became one of the world’s most celebrated and influential writers will be shared by her sons for the first time in a new radio documentary.
Born in Tuamgraney in 1930, Edna O’Brien is renowned for her lyrical prose and fearless exploration of themes such as love, identity and the role of women in society.
She carved out a career that earned her international acclaim and a lasting place in the canon of modern literature.
‘Wordsmith’, a brand-new two-part radio documentary produced by Clare FM’s Programme Director & Head of Operations, Padraic Flaherty, reflects on her remarkable life and legacy and is told through the voices of her family, friends, and colleagues.
Actor Gabriel Byrne, a close friend of Edna O’Brien, says the landscape of County Clare profoundly influenced her writing.
