Inquests into Quilty fishing tragedy

Inquests into the deaths of two Quilty fishermen off the Clare coast last year will be held today.

64 year old Skipper Michael Galvin – a married father of three – and his 35 year old neighbour Noel Dickinson died when their boat, the Lady Eileen, sank off the coast of Quilty on the 13th of August last year.  Their disappearance sparked a major search operation.

A report by the Marine Casualty Investigation Board found the boat sank when it encountered wind or wave action, causing the vessel to be swamped and unable to recover its buoyancy.

An inquest into the men’s deaths will be held at Ennis Courthouse this afternoon.
