The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says the Maternity Hospital in Limerick is short 24 midwives.
The body has conducted a survey of departments across the country to asses the level of staffing.

It's found the ratio of births to midwives in Limerick is one to every 34 births.
That's above the internationally recomended one to every 29 and a half.
