INMO Reports Further Hike In UHL Trolley Figures

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick remains severe, despite a deal between the HSE and staff to address issues there.

The number of patients on trolleys at Dooradoyle last month increased by nearly a third to a total of 709, the third-highest of any hospital in the country.

That's despite an agreement, struck at the beginning of the month, which will see more staff hired as part of the efforts to alleviate issues in this region.

Today's figures come ahead of this afternoon's Emergency Department Taskforce meeting, and amid reports that it is to recommend a focus on increased funding for the Fair Deal scheme, to allow patients move quicker into nursing homes and free up hospital beds.
