The INMO is calling for all elective procedures at University Hospital Limerick to be urgently outsourced to the private sector.
It comes amid persistent overcrowding at the Dooradoyle facility, where 121 patients were recorded without a bed during this morning’s rounds alone.
However with a recent surge in infections such as Strep A, Covid-19 and Norovirus, the organisation fear that UHL’s Emergency Department could become overwhelmed beyond recourse with the impending winter demand.
INMO MidWest Representative Mary Fogarty says that nurses are seriously demoralised in the current setting and the public’s safety is at risk.
