Inland Fisheries Ireland has confirmed that a number of people have been “interviewed under caution” in relation to the Ballymacraven River incident last week in which 2,000 fish were killed.
No cause has been given for the incident yet and while the agency has confirmed that it is its policy to prosecute persons responsible for pollution incidents, it can give no further information for fear of jeopardising legal proceedings.
A public meeting will take place at the Falls Hotel Ennistymon tonight to discuss a community response to the fish kill as well as ways to protect the biodiversity of the Ballymacraven river going forward.
Speaking in the Seanad, Inagh based Green Party Senator, Roisin Garvey says that a culprit for the fish kill must be found in order to ensure similar incidents don’t happen in the future.
